Tamil Nadu in India is full of surprises! The interprid tourist, who has heard and read about Tamil Nadu expects to see lot of temples. Several monuments perhaps. Then, the surprises begin. Tamil Nadu is a multi-destination state. It has one of the oldest civilizations of the world. It is the home of Dravidian art and culture characterized by its distinctive music and dances, its amazingly decorated temples and its plentiful festivals.

Tamil Nadu is referred as the "Land of Temples" with more than 30,000 temples, attractive tourist spots and diverse geographic features such as dense forests, abundant wildlife, large mountain ranges, beaches, hill resorts,etc.,

Chennai, once a fishing village is now a sprawling metropolis, and the capital of Tamil Nadu.
Places to see include Fort St. George, a former bastion of the British East India Company presently housing the Tamil Nadu State Legislature and the Secretariat. 

Marina, the longest natural urban beach in the country and the world's first longest natural urban beach runs from Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south, a distance of 13 km.

Kalashetra,where Bharatha Natyam and other classical dances of India are taught.Kapaleeswaram    temple, a fine example of Dravidian temple architecture dedicated to Lord Shiva.

1. KANCHEEPURAM


The city of thousand temples, is one of the seven sacred cities of India. A former capital of Pallavas, it is famous for its exquisitely woven silk sarees. Places to see here include Ekambareswarar Temple, Varadaraj Swamy Temple, Vaikundaperumal Temple,Kamakshi Amman Temple and silk fabric weaving centres.

2. MAMALLAPURAM


Once a flourishing port of the Pallavas of ancient India, this monument centre is today a World Heritage site and it's renowned as a major beach resort in South India. Places to see here include Shore Temple, Five Ratas, Arjuna's Penance and Tiger's cave,Muttukkadu backwaters.

3.CHIDAMBARAM


It is famous for the temple dedicated to Lord Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer(Lord Shiva). The Annamalai University located here is a major residential University. Pichavaram is a place of rare scenic beauty with its serene backwaters dotted with dense mangrove forests, which boast of unique avifauna.

4.KANNIYAKUMARI


Another famous pilgrim centre situated at the land's end of India, at the confluence of Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian sea. Places to see here include  Kumari Amman Temple,the colossal 133-foot tall Tiruvalluvar Statue, Gandhi Memorial, Beach and Vivekananda Memorial.

5.THIRUCHENDUR


Thiruchendur Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Muruga located in the district of Tuticorin, on the Indian Ocean is one of the delightful spots sanctified and venerated by every Hindu.

6.RAMESWARAM


One of the most sacred towns of India, it is well known for its temple corridor, the longest of its kind, the Agnitheertham, Ganthamathana Parvatham, Kothandaramar Temple, Kurusadai and other near by Islands.

7.MADURAI


Once the capital of Pandyas, is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu. It is famous for the Meenakshi Temple with its towering gopurams and rare sculptures. Other important attractions include Thirumalai Naicker Palace, Mariamman Tank, Koodal Azhagar Temple.

8.SRIPURAM


The golden temple of Sripuram is a spiritual park situated at the foot of a small range of green hills in a place known as "Malaikodi" in the city of Vellore. Almost 1500 kgs of gold was used to build this temple, which include all the carvings and sculptures.
